Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers arrested a homicide suspect early Friday morning at an Interstate 5 rest area north of Medford wanted in connection with the murder of her mother in Los Angeles, California. OSP Criminal Investigation Division detectives are assisting Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) homicide detectives with their investigation.
On February 15, 2013 at approximately 4:00 a.m., OSP troopers arrested LAURA PURVIANCE, age 24, in the Valley of the Rogue rest area along Interstate 5 about thirteen miles north of Medford. OSP responded to the rest area after receiving information from LAPD that she was at the rest area and was wanted in connection with the murder of her mother, CAROLINE SUE PURVIANCE, age 61.
According to LAPD Homicide Detective Dave Peteque, on February 14 at approximately 8:15 p.m., LAPD officers responded to a 9-1-1 call of a murder. When officers arrived they found an unresponsive adult female suffering a gunshot wound who was pronounced deceased at the scene by arriving medical personnel. LAPD homicide investigation identified the woman's daughter as the suspect in what they described as domestic violence and not a random act.
The suspect was lodged Friday night as a Fugitive From Justice in Jackson County Jail. LAPD detectives are traveling to Oregon to continue their investigation.
Any questions regarding LAPD's investigation should be directed to their Media Relations Section at (213) 486-5910.
