Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Friday evening's two vehicle serious injury traffic crash that occurred on Highway 26 about four miles west of Elsie in Clatsop County.
Preliminary information indicates on February 14, 2014 at approximately 6:00 p.m., a 1997 Acura Integra driven by CARLOS MARTINEZ CORTES, age 19, from Warrenton, was eastbound on Highway 26 near milepost 16 when the driver lost control. The Acura traveled into the westbound lane where it collided with a 2014 Mercedes sport utility vehicle occupied by two adults and three juvenile-aged passengers.
MARTINEZ CORTES and passenger SHANE LINK, age 18, from Astoria, were seriously injured. MARTINEZ CORTES was transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. LINK was transported to Oregon Health & Science University.
The Mercedes driver, ERIC FULLERTON, age 59, was not injured. An adult female passenger and three juvenile age passengers reportedly had minor injuries. Names and other information are still being gathered for the investigation.
OSP Trooper Greg Schuerger is the lead investigator. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Clatsop County Sheriff's Office, Elsie-Vinemaple Fire District, Medix Ambulance, and ODOT. The highway was blocked about two hours.
