Three people with outstanding warrants were arrested Saturday afternoon following their attempt to elude an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper northeast of Springfield in the Marcola area.
On February 15, 2014 at approximately 11:59 a.m., an OSP trooper patrolling on Marcola Road near milepost 3 attempted to stop a 1993 Honda Accord four-door displaying Oregon license plates after detecting the vehicle traveling 80 mph in a 55 mph speed zone. The Honda's driver failed to yield and sped up to over 100 mph as the trooper kept the vehicle in sight heading northbound toward Marcola.
During the next several miles, the driver attempted to recklessly elude the trooper and lost control near the intersection of Marcola Road and Wendling Road. Both vehicles collided at low speed before the driver again attempted to elude until pulling into a driveway in the 38000 block of Wendling Road.
As the Honda slowed, the driver opened the door and jumped out. Using the OSP patrol car, the trooper pinned the Honda against a pile of lumber and stopped. The trooper then took the car's driver, JOHN F. SWANK II, age 54, from Eugene, into custody without further incident. Two women in the car were also detained and subsequently identified after additional OSP troopers and a Lane County deputy arrived on scene.
SWANK and the two women passengers, who originally provided false information regarding their identities, were determined to be wanted on outstanding warrants.
SWANK was lodged in Lane County Jail on the following charges:
* Parole Violation (felony warrant)
* Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle
* Reckless Driving
* Criminal Mischief in the First Degree
* Recklessly Endangering Another Person
He was also cited for Driving While Suspended and several traffic violations.
The two women were positively identified as right front passenger KENDRA SNYDER, age 31, and rear passenger MARIAH MEEKS, age 18, both from La Grande. They had arrest warrants out of Union County for their arrest. SNYDER was wanted on a felony warrant charging Fail to Appear - Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine. MEEKS was wanted on a warrant charging Probation Violation.
Photographs of SWANK and SNYDER available on the Lane County Sheriff's Office jail website.
