Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Thursday morning's auto/pedestrian traffic collision on Interstate 5 near Aurora.
On February 21, 2013 at approximately 9:05 a.m., OSP Northern Command Center dispatch received multiple calls of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Interstate 5 near milepost 281 in the southbound lanes. Preliminary investigation showed a pedestrian identified as JOREN MOON LOVE, age 26, from Portland, was walking northbound on the southbound shoulder when he appeared to run into the freeway's travel lanes. LOVE was then struck in the far right southbound lane by a 2005 Chevrolet cargo truck owned by Overhead Door Co driven by WILLIAM HODGES, age 48, from Woodburn.
LOVE sustained severe injuries and was transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center where he is in critical condition. The southbound lanes were temporarily closed for LifeFlight transport.
HODGES stopped immediately and remained at the scene where he cooperated fully with the investigating troopers.
One southbound lane was re-opened about 9:55 a.m. and all lanes were open about one hour later.
OSP troopers from the Portland Area Command office is continuing the investigation. No citations have been issued.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Aurora Fire District, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, AMR Ambulance, and ODOT.
