A commercial truck driver received minor injuries Sunday morning after losing control of his truck on the icy-covered roadway near Shaniko and rolling off Highway 97.
On March 2, 2014 at approximately 6:00 a.m., a commercial truck pulling a semi-trailer was southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 62 when the truck's driver lost control traveling downhill entering a curve. The truck and trailer traveled across the northbound lane and went off the west side of Highway 97, rolling onto its top and causing the trailer split open and spilling apples across the embankment. Both fuel tanks punctured, leaking approximately 140 gallons of diesel on the ground.
The truck's driver, who was using safety restraints, was able to get out of the truck on his own power with minor injuries. He was transported by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Madras. His name is not available for this release.
OSP was assisted at the scene by South Sherman Fire & Rescue and ODOT.
Trooper Matthew Newby is the lead investigator.
