A Colt M16A1 semi-automatic rifle stolen from a locked Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper's patrol car in La Grande was recovered Sunday morning at a local area residence after La Grande police followed up on a tip phoned in to their department. A 16-year old juvenile male was lodged by the Union County Juvenile Department in connection with the investigation.
On March 17, 2013 at approximately 5:00 a.m., OSP was notified by La Grande Police Department that the rifle was found at a residence after a relative of the juvenile suspect called to report finding a rifle part in a bedroom. The caller was aware of the reported rifle theft when they called police. After arriving at the residence, La Grande police found the rest of the rifle and other evidence associated with the vehicle break-in and theft.
OSP and La Grande Police Department appreciate the public's help during the ongoing investigation and search for the stolen property after the vehicle break-in and theft was discovered March 1.
Questions regarding the recovered stolen property should be directed to La Grande Police Department. The juvenile's name is not being released at this time.
