Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into the cause of Tuesday night's fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to two others along Highway 18 about two miles east of McMinnville.
According to Sergeant Brad Hessel, on March 19, 2013 at approximately 9:40 p.m., a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by CHARLES SALINAS, age 30, from McMinnville, was westbound on Highway 18 near milepost 49 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2005  Freightliner truck pulling two trailers.
CHARLES SALINAS was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passenger, ARACELI SALINAS, age 10, was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center. This morning she is in Intensive Care Unit and her condition was described by hospital staff as "stable".
The truck's 44-year old male driver, DALE BOEKHOFF from Sheridan, was also injured and transported by ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center. He was treated and released.
The truck's fuel tanks both leaked diesel fuel requiring clean up coordinated by ODOT and Northwest Firefighters HazMat personnel. The highway was re-opened about 5:00 a.m.
OSP troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are investigating. OSP was assisted at the scene by Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, McMinnville Police Department, McMinnville Fire Department, and ODOT.
