On March 20, 2013 at approximately 10:12 a.m., a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by MARY E. COCHRAN, age 27, from Clackamas, was northbound on Interstate 205 near milepost 16 when it attempted to slow for a braking vehicle. COCHRAN lost control, veered from the center to left lane and collided with a 2002 Dodge Caravan occupied by eight people. The Jeep then rolled off the left side of the freeway lanes and was stopped by a cable center barrier. Both vehicles came to rest on the left shoulder and left lane.
The van's male driver, AKININO ENGICHY, age 45, from Salem, and six passengers (5 females and 1 male) were transported by ambulance to Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) with minor injuries.
COCHRAN was also transported by ambulance to OHSU with minor injuries.
OSP is continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash and asking any witnesses to contact Trooper Scott Kinch at (503) 731-3020 ext. 413.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Clackamas Fire District #1, AMR ambulance, and ODOT.
