Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of Junction City Police Department, is continuing the investigation into the cause of Friday night's single vehicle fatal crash that resulted in the death of one person on Kalmia Street at West 3rd Avenue in Junction City.
According to Sergeant Alan Gilbert, on March 29, 2013 at approximately 9:30 p.m., a Ford pickup driven by CHARLES FLANDERS III, age 23, from Junction City, was southbound on Kalmia Street approaching the T-intersection at West 3rd Avenue. The pickup continued through the intersection, into a church parking lot, and then vaulted over a small creek and collided into a tree.
There were no witnesses to the crash. The scene was discovered by a security guard about two hours later. Medics and Junction City Police Department responded and pronounced FLANDERS deceased at the scene. FLANDERS was using safety restraints and airbags deployed.
Junction City Police Department requested assistance from an OSP collision reconstructionist. Troopers from the OSP Springfield Area Command office responded to the scene. Alcohol and speed are possible contributing factors.
OSP and Junction City police were assisted at the scene by Junction City Fire Department.
