According to Senior Trooper Dan Swift, on April 10, 2013 at approximately 8:15 a.m., a 1994 Ford Ranger pickup driven by ANGEL ARANDA, age 41, from Orange, California, was northbound on Highway 213 near milepost 2 in the right hand lane when it was struck from behind by a 2006 Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicle reportedly driving at a high rate of speed. The impact pushed the pickup off the highway and both vehicles had major damage.
An adult male witness stopped at the scene after the collision and contacted the involved drivers. While telling the Jeep's driver, KELLY LEWALLEN, age 50, from Oregon City, what he saw, LEWALLEN physically attacked the witness and they went down on the ground struggling with one another. The two men separated as Clackamas County Fire District 1 firefighters arrived on scene. Neither man was taken to an area hospital but the witness did have minor injuries on his hands and face.
OSP troopers, CCSO deputies and Oregon City police responded to the scene. Subsequent to the investigation, LEWALLEN was arrested by OSP and lodged in the Clackamas County Jail for Assault in the Fourth Degree. Additional charges are pending related to the traffic crash investigation.
ARANDA was transported to Meridian Park Hospital with minor injury.
