Two people are hospitalized following a head-on collision on Highway 126W west of Eugene early Saturday morning. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Springfield Area Command are continuing the investigation.

According to Trooper Evan Sether, on April 13, 2013 at approximately 4:00 a.m., a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by SARAH LONG, age 26, from Roseburg, was eastbound on Highway 126W near milepost 51 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound Dodge Caravan operated by DAVID BROOKBANK, age 43, from Springfield. BROOKBANK was unable to avoid the collision despite steering toward the shoulder of the highway.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles and were transported by medics to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend with non-life threatening injuries. They were using safety restraints and airbags deployed in both vehicles.

Subsequent to the initial investigation, LONG was cited to appear in Lane County Circuit Court for the following offenses:

* Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (Alcohol & Controlled Substances)
* Assault in the Third Degree
* Reckless Driving
* Recklessly Endangering Another Person

He was also cited for Failure to Drive Within a Lane.

OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT, Lane Rural Fire Department, and Eugene Fire Department. The highway was completely blocked for approximately one hour and then restricted to one lane for another 30 minutes while the vehicles were removed.
