Two people were injured, one seriously, in a two-vehicle traffic crash Friday evening east of Albany on Highway 20 at the Knox Butte Road intersection. Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation which has led to one driver being cited for several charges including DUII.
On April 12, 2013 at approximately 7:00 p.m., a 1993 Nissan Sentra driven by LISA M. AUTERSON, age 41, from Albany, was attempting to turn eastbound onto Highway 20 from Knox Butte Road. A 2012 Chevrolet Captiva driven by LORI D. SLAVENSKI, age 50, from Lebanon, was traveling westbound on Highway 20 and attempted to avoid the turning Nissan but was unable to and collided into its driver side.
AUTERSON was not using safety restraints and was ejected from the vehicle onto the highway. She was seriously injured and transported by REACH air ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.
LORI SLAVENSKI received minor injuries and was transported by a family member to Lebanon General Hospital. Her passenger, MAKENNA SLAVENSKI, age 13, was not injured. Both were using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the Albany Area Command office responded to investigate. Trooper Ian McKay is the lead investigator and subsequently cited AUTERSON for DUII, Reckless Driving, and Assault in the Fourth Degree.
Linn County Sheriff's Office, ODOT, REACH Air Ambulance, and Albany Fire Department assisted on scene. The highway was blocked over four during the investigation.
