Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Thursday afternoon's serious injury crash involving a passenger vehicle and a stopped commercial truck and semi-trailer on Highway 20 just east of Lebanon.
According to OSP Sergeant James Halsey, on April 24, 2014 at approximately 1:00 p.m., a commercial truck pulling semi-trailer was stopped in the right westbound lane waiting to turn into a driveway as a train was passing through. A 2008 Chevolet Impala driven by SAMUEL R. SLAUGHTER, age 81, from Sweet Home, was westbound when the driver failed to notice the stationary trailer and crashed into the rear. The car was lodged underneath and its driver was seriously injured.
Lebanon Fire District firefighters extricated SLAUGHTER and he was transported by REACH air ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center for treatment. His injuries appear non-life threatening.
OSP troopers from the Albany Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Trooper Ian McKay is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Linn County Sheriff's Office, Lebanon Police Department and ODOT. All lanes were open before 4:00 p.m.
