Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the death of an adult male pedestrian who was struck by a commercial truck in the northbound traffic lanes of Interstate 5 about two miles north of Woodburn. Updated information:

* Traffic is getting past the scene using the left inside shoulder and left lane. Travelers may want to delay travel through the area or seek alternative routes. Traffic updates will be posted on ODOT's website TripCheck.com. All remaining lanes expected to be re-opened approximately 10:00 a.m.

* The deceased has been identified but next of kin not notified. The medical examiner is on scene assisting and coordinating removal of deceased.

* Updated investigation indicates the deceased was operating a passenger vehicle, pulled onto the right northbound shoulder and stopped. The deceased got out of the vehicle and began to move on foot from the shoulder to the right lane. The driver of a northbound commercial sanitiation truck in the right northbound lane moved to the center lane as the pedestrian continuing moving across the traffic lanes. The pedestrian was sideswiped by the sanitation truck and pronounced deceased.

* No witnesses other than the involved driver have been identified. Anyone who witnessed the crash, or events leading up to the crash, is asked to call OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at 800-452-7888. Lead investigator is Senior Trooper Craig Ball.

On April 25, 2014 at approximately 5:47 a.m., a trucking company notified OSP Northern Command Center dispatch that one of their drivers struck a pedestrian in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the ODOT truck weigh station. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

All lanes were temporarily blocked and then about 6:02 a.m. the left northbound lane was opened for traffic. OSP. Woodburn Police Department, Woodburn Fire Department, and ODOT responded.

Northbound traffic should expect delays. Consider alternative traffic but please note those routes may also end in delays getting to your destination if traveling northbound.

No other information for release at this time. An update with more information will be released later today.
