Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are investigating Sunday morning's minor injury traffic crash involving a Marion County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) sport utility vehicle along Interstate in the southbound lanes south of Portland Road.
On April 27, 2014 at approximately 8:40 a.m., a MCSO marked sport utility vehicle driven by a deputy was northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 258 responding to assist officers who spotted a felony assault suspect in a field near the freeway north of Salem. The deputy lost control on the wet pavement as the vehicle traveled across the center median into the southbound lanes. The vehicle struck a concrete roadside wall and sign before coming to rest on its wheels on the right southbound shoulder. Originally released information that the vehicle rolled over was incorrect. Roadway conditions were described as very wet with standing water in places.
The deputy and cadet both received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Salem Hospital for treatment.
OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are investigating. OSP was assisted at the scene by Salem Fire Department, Salem Police Department, Marion County Sheriff's Office and ODOT.
The center and right southbound lanes were blocked during the investigation.
Marion County Sheriff's Office identified the two occupants as Deputy Derrick Ramseyer, an 8-year veteran, and Cadet Brianna Luna-Garcia, age 20.
