Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Pendleton Area Command concluded the on scene investigation into the circumstances surrounding Friday morning's two-vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 11 near Pendleton. The crash resulted in the death of one driver, and the occupants of the other vehicle received no or minor injuries.
On May 10, 2013 at approximately 8:50 a.m., a two vehicle crash occurred on Highway 11 at milepost 20 near Pendleton in Umatilla County. Preliminary investigation at the scene indicates a 2013 Toyota Corolla driven by VINCENT A. TORRIER, age 77, from Walla Walla, Washington, was northbound on Highway 11 when he made a U-turn in front of a 2004 Ford F350 pickup driven by DEBORA J. ALDER, age 55, from Hermiston.
TORRIER was entrapped and extricated by firefighters. He was taken by air ambulance to Providence Saint Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla were he was pronounced deceased. His pet dog with him in the vehicle received minor injuries and was released to family.
The highway was closed for over 4 hours.
Ms. ALDER had three passengers in her vehicle identified as Allen R. Alder, age 54, Dana M. Hanson, age 32, and a 10-year old juvenile.
OSP troopers were assisted on scene by Athena Fire Deptartment, East Umatilla County Rural Fire Deptartment, East Umatilla County Ambulance, ODOT, LifeFlight and police officers from Pendleton, Athena and Weston Police Departments.
