An adult male motorcyclist was seriously injured Thursday morning in a near head-on collision with a small pickup on Highway 26 east of Manning in Washington County. Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation.
On July 4, 2013 at approximately 11:50 a.m., a 1994 Toyota pickup driven by ERIC G. LYON, age 38, from southeast Portland, was westbound on Highway 26 near milepost 49 in heavy stop-and-go traffic. The pickup attempted to make a u-turn with limited visibility and as it pulled across the double solid center line a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle collided into the front of the pickup.
The motorcycle's operator, JUSTIN PATEY, age 25, from Wilsonville, was ejected and later transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with serious injuries. He was wearing a protective helmet.
LYON was not injured and provided initial medical care until relieved by paramedics.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Washington County Sheriff's Office, North Plains Police Department, Banks Fire District 13, Metro West ambulance, and ODOT. The highway was closed with a detour in place for about an hour.
