Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Tuesday afternoon's collision along Highway 22 about four miles west of Salem that has resulted in the death of a Dallas-area man.
Updated information indicates on July 16, 2013 at approximately 2:45 p.m., a commercial truck pulling a flatbed trailer driven by SCOTT H. OLSEN, age 56, from Everett, Washington, was pulling across the westbound lanes of Highway 22 near milepost 21 from 50th Avenue NW to proceed eastbound. The truck and trailer had nearly cleared the westbound lanes when a 1992 Nissan pickup driven by JAMES WILLIAM MILLER, age 63, from Dallas, collided into the trailer's left rear axle area.
MILLER was transported to Salem Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. He was not using safety restraints.
OLSEN was not injured.
OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Senior Trooper Peggy Bishop is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Polk County Sheriff's Office, Salem Fire Department, and ODOT. An off-duty paramedic from West Valley Fire District was traveling through the area and arrived on scene shortly after the crash happened. The paramedic started emergency medical care until Salem Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene.
