A 24-year old Cornelius man was arrested Monday afternoon when he nearly struck two officers from Oregon State Police and Washington County Sheriff's Office along with emergency vehicles, after driving upon a traffic crash scene at a high rate of speed.

On July 22, 2013 at approximately 3:30 p.m., an OSP trooper stopped to assist Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) at the scene of a single vehicle crash into a tree on Scotch Church Road just west of Jackson School Road. At approximately 3:45 p.m., a black Mercedes passenger car approached the crash scene eastbound on Scotch Church Road at a high rate of speed where the OSP patrol car and large fire truck were positioned with emergency lights on. The vehicle nearly struck the patrol car and fire truck as the trooper and a WCSO sergeant jumped to safety. The vehicle stopped after the trooper flagged the driver to stop.

Subsequent investigation led to the driver, JORGE L. ARAUJO, age 24, from Cornelius, being arrested and lodged in the Washington County Jail on the following charges:

* Reckless Driving
* Recklessly Endangering Another Person (2 counts)
* Misdemeanor Driving While Suspended
* Fail to Install an Interlock Ignition Device
