Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Friday evening's two-vehicle fatal traffic crash along Highway 18 west of the Spirit Mountain Casino in Polk County.
On August 2, 2013 at approximately 6:16 p.m., a 2000 Ford Focus driven by ALEXANDER BARNES, age 19, from Aumsville, was westbound on Highway 18 near milepost 22 when BARNES attempted a u-turn and was struck in the driver's side door by a Ford pickup following behind the car.
BARNES was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in his car, MATTHEW FRANKENHAUSER, age 22, from Aumsville, was critically injured and transported to Salem Hospital where he is being treated.
The Ford pickup's driver, DANNYELLE MAGER, gae 32, from Amity, was not injured. A passenger in the pickup was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
OSP troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
OSP were assisted by Polk County Sheriff's Office, Grand Ronde Police Department, West Valley Fire District, and ODOT. The highway was blocked about 4 hours.
