gregg.hastings@state.or.usOregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into a fatal motorcycle-involved traffic crash that resulted in the death of a 56-year old man on Highway 22 about five miles south of Highway 18 in Polk County.
According to Senior Trooper Bridget Taylor, on August 11, 2012 at approximately 11:45 a.m. a 2002 Yamaha motorcycle operated by WADE WAYNE WINKLE, age 56, from northeast Salem, was westbound on Highway 22 near milepost 5 entering a right hand curve when it traveled straight into a guardrail along the eastbound shoulder. The motorcycle slid along the guardrail as the operated was ejected and came to rest in the eastbound lane. WINKLE was pronounced deceased at the scene.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Polk County Sheriff's Office, West Valley Fire District, and ODOT. One lane was re-opened about 30 minutes after the crash. All lanes were open about 3:00 p.m.
