OSP Hazardous Technicians Respond to Suspicious Object Outside State Employment Department Building in Salem

Oregon State Police (OSP) Hazardous Device Technicians completed an assessment and examination of an unaccounted for suspicious suitcase found Monday afternoon outside the Oregon State Employment Department building north of the Capitol Mall in Salem. The item was not hazardous and contained personal clothing items. The owner has not been identified.

On August 12, 2013 at approximately 2:10 p.m., OSP Hazardous Device Technicians and OSP troopers arrived on scene at 875 Union St NE to assess and examine the suspicous object. Employment Department management directed employees to evacuate the building causing a temporary delay for their business and work services.

At approximately 3:10 p.m., OSP personnel began clearing the scene. Employment Department employees are returning to work.
