Three people from the other vehicle were transported for examination of possible minor injuries.
On August 18, 2012 at approximately 1:20 p.m. a 2002 Toyota 4Runner sport utility vehicle driven by KARLIE JEAN HOBSON, age 32, from Eugene, was westbound on Highway 126W near milepost 9. For an unknown reason, the Toyota drifted across the centerline toward an eastbound 2007 Dodge four-door pickup pulling an enclosed trailer. The Dodge's driver, ALEXANDER L. MORELAND, age 20, from Milwaukie, moved toward the right guardrail but couldn't avoid a near head-on crash.
HOBSON was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was using safety restraints.
MORELAND and two passengers were transported by ambulance to Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence. They were treated and released. The passengers are identified as ZACHARY ROE, age 21, and JACOB BLANKENBAKER, age 21, both from Vancouver, Washington. All were using safety restraints.
OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue Department and ODOT. The highway was restricted to one lane of travel following a brief closure until the scene was cleared.
