OSP Criminal Investigations Division Detectives Leading Interagency Investigation Into Officer-Involved Shooting in Klamath Falls

On Tuesday, August 20, 2013, the Klamath County Major Crime Team was activated to respond to an officer-involved shooting. Klamath Falls Police Department responded to the 1600 block of Portland Street in Klamath Falls related to a report of a stolen vehicle and a suspect identified as MATTHEW DAVID BORNER, age 52, who also had an outstanding felony warrant. Officers attempted to arrest BORNER when a confrontation occurred during which shots were fired by the Klamath Falls Police Department. BORNER was pronounced deceased. No officers were injured.

Pursuant to the Klamath County Use of Deadly Physical Force Plan and Klamath Falls Police Department policy, involved officers are placed on paid administrative leave. This is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings until the investigation is completed.

In investigtion is proceeding and led by the Oregon State Police Criminal Investigations Division as a member of the Klamath County Major Crime Team.

The Klamath County Major Crime Team is comprised of representatives of the Klamath County Sheriff's Office, Klamath Falls Police Department, Oregon State Police, Klamath County Community Corrections, and Klamath County District Attorney's Office.
