Serious Injury Pedestrian-Involved Hit & Run Crash; Driver Arrested
Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Saturday afternoon's serious injury pedestrian-involved crash that occurred following a domestic disturbance at a residence along Highway 42 east of Winston.
According to Sergeant Matt Bowersox, on September 1, 2012 at approximately 1:45 p.m. a 1977 Ford van driven by SAMUEL ROY ADEE, age 57, from Roseburg, struck a pedestrian walking eastbound along the shoulder of Highway 42 between Winston and Green west of Interstate 5. Several minutes before the reported incident, ADEE and the pedestrian, identified as RUTH D. HEDRICK, age 52, were involving in a domestic disturbance at a nearby residence. ADEE and HEDRICK reside together in the Roseburg-area.
After initially stopping at the scene, ADEE reportedly drove away and the van was found about two miles from the scene in a parking lot. ADEE was located at a nearby gas station and the subsequent initial investigation led OSP to arrest him for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. He was taken to the Douglas County Jail where he was cited and released pending the ongoing investigation. Additional charges are pending.
HEDRICK was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg with serious injuries. She was later transferred to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield.
OSP was assisted in the investigation and at the scene by Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Winston Police Department, ODOT and Winston Fire Department.
