Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Thursday morning's fatal traffic crash along Highway 199 south of Grants Pass involving a motorcycle and commercial truck that resulted in the death of an adult male.
According to Sergeant Jeff Proulx, on September 5, 2013 at approximately 8:00 a.m., a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by RANDALL KENT LUBIN, age 56, from Selma, Oregon, was northbound on Highway 199 near milepost 14 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 1992 Peterbilt truck pulling a semi-trailer. The truck's driver, LEE CONNER, age 59, from Springfield, couldn't avoid the motorcycle and stopped about a hundred yards down the road after impact.
LUBIN was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing a protective helmet.
CONNER was not injured. He was driving for Weatherly's Inc., out of Eugene, transporting building supplies.
OSP troopers from the Grants Pass work site are conducting the investigation.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Rural/Metro Fire Department and ODOT. The highway was partially blocked for about four hours during the investigation.
