Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of Clackamas County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), arrested a Grants Pass-area man wanted on a felony warrant out of Josephine County Friday morning after he attempted to elude officers in the Clackamas / Gladstone area.
On September 6, 2013 at approximately 7:40 a.m., an OSP trooper stopped a 2000 Buick LeSabre four-door displaying Oregon license plates on SE 82nd Avenue near Southgate Street for a vehicle license violation. As the trooper began approaching the car, it sped off southbound on SE 82nd Avenue. The trooper got back into the patrol car and, with lights and siren activated, tried to keep the vehicle in sight as it nearly struck a vehicle near SE Sunnybrooke Boulevard and then went southbound on Interstate 205. The car exited Interstate 205 at Highway 224 and traveled west on neighborhood roads where the trooper lost sight and terminated the pursuit.
CCSO deputies were searching area roads when they spotted the vehicle and stopped it at approximately 8:04 a.m. in the Gladstone area, where OSP and CCSO took the car's driver into custody without further incident.
STEVEN JAMES GRIFFITH, age 39, from Grants Pass, was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail for Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and the felony warrant charging Fail to Appear - Theft in the First Degree.
