An investigation by members of the Josephine County Major Crimes Team, led by Oregon State Police (OSP) Criminal Investigations Division, into a September 7, 2013 shooting death near Kerby led to the arrest Monday of a 64-year old man.
 
On September 16, 2013 at approximately 12:15 p.m., detectives arrested DONALD EASLEY, age 64, at his residence for Murder and Unlawful Use of a Firearm in connection with a shooting involving two neighboring property residents in the 23000 address block of Redwood Highway (Highway 199) in Kerby. The shooting resulted in the death of LARON JUSTIN ESTES, age 59, after ESTES was transported to Three Rivers Medical Center with a gunshot wound. EASLEY fired at least one shot from a handgun at ESTES causing his death.
 
EASLEY was transported by OSP detectives to the Josephine County Jail where he will be held pending an arraignment tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, at 1:00 p.m., in Josephine County Circuit Court.
 
The Josephine County Major Crimes Team, comprised of detectives from OSP Criminal Investigations Division detectives and Grants Pass Police Department, were activated to investigate in coordination with the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office.
