Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers will be on scene for several hours following a single vehicle rollover traffic crash off the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Highway 58 south of Eugene. One person is confirmed deceased at the scene of the crash that blocked the northbound lanes while emergency responders worked to save the driver. The left northbound lane was opened at 12:35 p.m. and travelers should anticipate delays in the area.
Preliminary information indicates on September 20, 2013 at approximately 11:15 a.m., a lone adult male in a van was northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 188. For an unknown reason, the van traveled off the northbound lanes and rolled. The male driver was extricated by firefighters and placed in an awaiting air ambulance, but before the air ambulance could depart, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At approximately 11:40 a.m., the northbound lanes were closed for air ambulance response. Travelers should pay extra attention and be patient if traveling through the area.
An update release will have additional information later today after the scene investigation is completed.
OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are conducting the investigation. OSP is assisted at the scene by Goshen Fire Department, South Lane County Fire & Rescue, and ODOT.
