Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into the cause of Friday morning's fatal single vehicle rollover traffic crash off the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 just prior to the Hig hway 58 off ramp south of Eugene.
On September 20, 2013 at approximately 11:15 a.m., a 1987 Volkswagen van driven by BEAUVAIS JESSIE RANDALL, age 81, from Eugene, was northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 188. For an unknown reason, the van traveled gradually off the northbound lanes for several hundred feet and then rolled before coming to rest on its left side. RANDALL was extricated by firefighters and placed in an awaiting air ambulance, but before the air ambulance could depart, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At approximately 11:40 a.m., the northbound lanes were closed for air ambulance response. One lane was opened about 12:30 p.m. All lanes were open about 3:00 p.m.
OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are conducting the investigation. Trooper Gerald Ellis is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Goshen Fire Department, South Lane County Fire & Rescue, and ODOT.
