A 53-year old California woman is being held at a Portland-area hospital for a mental evaluation after she was involved Saturday evening in an attempt to elude on Interstate 205 between Clackamas and southeast Portland. The incident ended when Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers successfully deployed spike strips near SE Stark Street causing the woman to stop where she was taken into custody without further incident.

On September 21, 2013 at approximately 6:30 p.m., an OSP trooper attempted to stop a Ford Escape displaying California license plates eastbound on Highway 224 near 82nd Drive for a turning violation. The driver failed to yield to the trooper, made a u-turn and proceeded northbound on Interstate 205 at speeds between 60 and 80 mph.

At approximately 6:40 p.m., two PPB officers deployed spike strips near milepost 19, deflating four tires and causing the driver to pull onto the shoulder where she stopped. The northbound lanes were closed briefly until until OSP and PPB officers detained without further incident.

The 53-year old female driver was transported by ambulance to Portland Adventist Hospital where she was being held for a mental evaluation. Her name is withheld due to the mental evaluation. Traffic offense charges are pending.
