Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Saturday night's serious injury collision between a sport utility vehicle and a male pedestrian on Highway 101 south of Florence.
On September 21, 2013 at approximately 8:52 p.m., an OSP trooper was dispatched to a report of a pedestrian lying injured in front of a sport utility vehicle on Highway 101 near milepost 192. The trooper arrived three minutes later and started medical care for the man until relieved by medical responders.
Preliminary investigation indicates a 2002 GMC Envoy driven by NANCY E. PEARSON, age 55, from Florence, was traveling on Highway 101 when a male pedestrian ran out in front of the vehicle. PEARSON saw the pedestrian in the darkness at the last moment and was unable to avoid striking him.
The male pedestrian, JEFFREY G. MILLER, age 46, from Florence, was transported by Western Lane Ambulace to Peace Harbor Hospital and then to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend with serious injury.
PEARSON was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation.
Trooper Darrell Sheets in the lead investigator. OSP was assisted at the scene by Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue and ODOT.
