According to Sergeant Robert Fenner, on September 22, 2012 at approximately 11:36 a.m., a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle operated by RICHARD W. WRUBEL, age 52, from Klamath Falls, was westbound on South Side Bypass near the Memorial Drive intersection where traffic was stopped for a vehicle waiting to turn. Attempting to stop, WRUBEL lost control and the motorcycle slid over to the westbound shoulder. WRUBEL was ejected and seriously injured. He was wearing a protective helmet.
WRUBEL was transported by Klamath County Fire District 1 to Sky Lakes Medical Center. After being stabilized, he was flown by air ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. OSP was notified on Sunday that he died from injuries sustained in the crash.
OSP troopers from the Klamath Falls Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Trooper Craig Rice is the lead investigator.
Klamath Falls City Police Department, Klamath County Fire District 1, Klamath County Fire District 4, and ODOT assisted at the scene. The highway was restricted to one lane for approximately one hour.
Last month following several fatal motorcycle crashes, ODOT sent a news release with reminders and safety tips related to motorcycle safety - http://tinyurl.com/8bzf4xd.
