(Updated September 27 adding name of deceased's name)

Oregon State Police (OSP) and Polk County Medical Examiner are continuing the investigation into the apparent natural cause death of elderly woman Wednesday morning who was a passenger in vehicle traveling along Highway 18 in the Grand Ronde area. The 76-year old Virginia woman had visited relatives and was returning back to the Portland airport when she died.

On September 25, 2013 at approximately 7:30 a.m., OSP was notified of a possible single vehicle crash along Highway 18 near milepost 23 in front of Spirit Mountain Casino. Emergency responders and ODOT personnel arrived on scene and confirmed no traffic crash occurred but there was a deceased female passenger in an eastbound vehicle whose driver had pulled over and noted the woman was unresponsive.

The woman is identified as NANCY CHARLENE KYES, age 76, from Bedford, Virginia.

OSP troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office responded to the scene with Polk County Sheriff's Office and local emergency responders.

Senior Trooper Bridget Taylor is the lead investigator.
