An armed man is in custody following a near-two hour standoff at a residence in west Oakridge. Officers from Oakridge Police Department (OPD), Oregon State Police (OSP), and Lane County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) took the man into custody afte he reportedly fired one shot earlier when an OPD officer attempted to make contact at the residence. The area was contained during this ongoing police response and residents in the area were asked to stay in their homes.
Lane County Sheriff's Office arrested KELLY ZANG, age 55, for Unlawful Use of a Weapon and lodged him in the Lane County Jail.
On September 27, 2013 at approximately 11:56 a.m, an OPD officer went to a residence in the 76000 block of River Road in west Oakridge area on a welfare check of a male resident. When the officer arrived and attempted contact, the officer heard a gunshot and backed away taking cover while awaiting additional police response.
OSP troopers and LCSO deputies responded to assist and contain the the area. LCSO deputies used an armored military surplus vehicle to move close to ZANG's residence. ZANG surrendered at approximately 1:50 p.m., after he was hailed by deputies from inside the vehicle.
