According to Sergeant Cari Boyd, on October 4, 2012 at approximately 11:18 a.m., a 2008 Kenworth truck driven by DREW ELLIOT, age 28, from Orofino, Idaho, was southbound on Highway 101 near milepost 152 at approximately 30 mph. For an unknown reason, the truck traveled off the roadway through a ditch and struck and embankment. Both truck and semi-trailer overturned onto the left side. ELLIOT was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the Newport Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Senior Trooper Bryan Fitch is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Central Coast Fire & Rescue, Seal Rock Rural Fire Protection District, and ODOT. The highway was closed about 90 minutes before being re-opened to one lane until three hours later when the vehicles were removed.
