Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the cause of an early Saturday morning single vehicle fatal crash that resulted in the death of an adult female along Highway 18B near Sheridan. The victim's name is released in this update.
According to Sergeant Brad Hessel, on October 6, 2012 at approximately 2:55 a.m., a 1996 Ford Explorer driven by CANDACE M. DIAZ, age 23, from Sheridan, was eastbound on Highway 18B near milepost 5 when it traveled onto the eastbound shoulder after negotiating a left curve. DIAZ over-corrected, causing the vehicle to travel across the highway and into a ditch where it rolled after colliding into a driveway headwall.
DIAZ was not using safety restraints and was partially ejected. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
OSP troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Trooper Chad Drew is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, Sheridan Fire District, and ODOT.
The highway was closed about 3 hours during the investigation.
