An adult male died Sunday following an afternoon collision involving a bicycle he was riding and a passenger car at a north Eugene-area intersection. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation.
On October 6, 2013 at approximately 3:30 p.m., STEVEN EMERY BURCH, age 56, from Eugene, was riding on a motorized bicycle northbound on Oak Drive approaching the intersection with Howard Avenue when, according to witnesses, the bicycle failed to stop at a stop sign. BURCH was starting to make a u-turn on the bicycle and pulled into the path of an eastbound 2002 Toyota Camry four-door driven by RYLAN J. SIROSHTON, age 17, from Eugene, when it was struck by the car.
Lane County Sheriff's Office originally responded to the scene and then requested OSP troopers and a Collision Reconstructionist take lead for the investigation.
BURCH, who was not wearing a protective helmet, was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend where he later died. He was staying with friends who lived a short distance from the crash scene.
SIROSHTON was not injured.
OSP was also assisted at the scene by Eugene Fire & EMS Department. Senior Trooper Cecil Arient and Trooper Hank Duren are the lead investigators.
