Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the cause of an early Sunday morning single vehicle fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of an adult male along Caves Highway east of Cave Junction.
According to Sergeant David Beck, on October 6, 2013 at approximately 12:35 a.m., OSP responded to a reported crash that was heard from an area resident in the 4600 block of Caves Highway. An adult male identified as STEVEN MICHAEL RUBINS, age 63, from Cave Junction, was found deceased after being ejected from his vehicle.
Preliminary information indicates a 1994 Buick Roadmaster driven by RUBINS was southbound on Caves Highway near milepost 5 when it traveled off the highway entering a curve. The vehicle rolled before coming to rest with the operator ejected about 60 feet away from where the vehicle was found.
OSP troopers from the Grants Pass and Central Point offices responded to investigate. Speed is a possible contributing factor.
