Missing Lane County Man Found Uninjured in Vehicle Down Embankment - Highway 36 near Triangle Lake

An elderly Lane County man reported missing Thursday evening was found early Friday morning in his vehicle down an embankment after a log truck driver spotted it along Highway 36 near Triangle Lake. The man was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation but appeared not injured.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Recruit Trooper Josh Wolcott-Peterson, on October 19, 2012 at approximately 6:38 a.m. a log truck driver traveling westbound along Highway 36 near milepost 24 spotted a vehicle off the roadway down an embankment and called 9-1-1. OSP, Lake Creek Fire & Rescue and Lane Rural Fire & Rescue responded to the scene.
The vehicle's driver, GORDON LEE SMITH, age 82, from Blachly, was extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel and brought up a steep embankment to the highway. He was transported by ambulance to McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center for a medical evaluation.
SMITH was reported as a missing person to Lane County Sheriff's Office on the evening of October 18, 2012. OSP believes his vehicle traveled off Highway 36 at approximately 3:00 p.m. but he couldn't call for help and wasn't able to get out of his vehicle.
