A commercial truck driver was cited Thursday morning following an injury traffic crash along the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 at the north end of Grants Pass. The truck and semi-trailer rolled off the freeway overpass and came to rest on its top on the embankment next to NE Scoville Road, leading to an ongoing partial closure of a northbound lane and area detours throughout the day for recovery of the truck's cargo.

On October 24, 2013 at approximately 1:06 a.m., a Freightliner truck pulling a semi-trailer driven by PARMJIT SINGH, age 28, from Phoenix, Arizona, was northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 58 when it traveled onto the right shoulder, struck the concrete guardrail and overturned off the northbound lanes. The truck and semi-trailer came to rest on its top on a brushy embankment next to NE Scoville Road.

SINGH was transported by OSP to Three Rivers Community Hospital for a medical examination. He was later cited for Careless Driving and Fail to Drive Within a Lane.

Oregon State Police was assisted at the scene by Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, Grants Pass Fire/Rescue, and ODOT.

According to ODOT's TripCheck.com, the right northbound lane of Interstate 5 at the Grants Pass - exit 58 remains closed for recovery of truck and semi-trailer. Exit 58 northbound on and off ramp traffic, using NE Scoville Road, will be closed intermittently throughout the day for recovery of the trailer's frozen strawberry cargo. Detours are in place. Traffic updates can be monitored at TripCheck.com.
