Oregon State Police (OSP) is asking for the public's help to locate the driver and vehicle involving in an injury pedestrian-involved hit-and-run crash Saturday night on Highway 20 about 1 1/2 miles east of Newport. The crash injured an adult male hitchhiker.
According to Trooper Brian Tucker, on October 26, 2013 at approximately 9:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., DAMIEN A. BROWN, age 29, from Newport, was hitchhiking eastbound along the shoulder of Highway 20 near milepost 2 in a dark, unlit area. As BROWN was positioned on the shoulder with left arm extended, a passing pickup struck his arm. The driver pulled the pickup over to the shoulder about 100 yards east of BROWN, stopped momentarily and then drove away.
BROWN was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital for treatment of a broken arm.
BROWN described the pickup as a blue older model (late 70s to early 90s) with possible Oregon license plates. He said it appeared there was one occupant.
There was no visible vehicle damage evidence at the scene.
