Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Friday afternoon's fatal traffic crash along Highway 214 north of Silverton that resulted in the death of an adult male and injuries to a second person.
According to Lieutenant Tim Fox, on November 2, 2012 at approximately 2:30 p.m., a 2002 Honda Civic driven by ROBERT BENJAMIN BERNABE del ROSARIO, age 35, from Mt. Angel, was southbound on Highway 214 approaching the intersection with Downs Road NE when a pickup driven by an Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) employee stopped westbound on Downs Road NE drove into the intersection. The Honda's driver lost control and slid broadside by a northbound 1995 Chevrolet Suburban driven by LORINDA McKINLEY, age 37, from Silverton.
BERNABE del ROSARIO was ejected from the vheicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. Safety restraint use is pending confirmation.
McKINLEY was transported by ambulance to Silverton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation. No enforcement action has been taken at this time and no additional information is being released pending completion of the investigation.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Mt. Angel Police Department, local fire personnel and ODOT.
