Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into an early Sunday morning single vehicle crash along Highway 241 (Coos River Highway) about three miles northeast of Coos Bay that resulted in the death of the vehicle's lone occupant.
On November 4, 2012 at approximately 1:54 a.m., a 2011 Hyundai Sante Fe driven by THOMAS CHARLES BUNCH, age 30, from North Bend, was traveling northbound on Highway 241 near the Chandler Bridge about milepost 3 when BUNCH lost control. The vehicle slid sideways, striking several road side signs and its passenger side impacted the end of the guardrail.
BUNCH, who was operating the vehicle with a suspended license, was transported by Bay City Ambulance to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay where he died from injuries sustained in the crash. Safety restraint use is pending confirmation.
OSP troopers from the Coos Bay Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. Senior Trooper Fred Dunlap is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Coos County Sheriff's Office, Millington Fire Department, Coos Bay Fire Department, and ODOT.
