Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into an apparent natural cause-related death of a 52-year old man found Saturday afternoon deceased inside a sport utility vehicle parked at the Interstate 5 northbound Santiam Rest Area north of Albany.
On November 2, 2013 at approximately 3:22 p.m., an OSP trooper stopped to check the interior of a white Chevrolet Blazer that had observed parked at different times / dates in the northbound Santiam Rest Area near milepost 241. The trooper saw an adult male in the back seat covered in blankets. Thinking he was asleep, the trooper knocked on the windows to check on the man's welfare but received no response. When the trooper opened an unlocked rear door he discovered the man was deceased.
The Marion County Medical Examiner responded to the scene and confirmed no sign that the man's death was suspicious and appeared to be from natural causes. The medical examiner estimates the man had been dead for less than two days.
The deceased man was identified as TIMOTHY JOHN PARKIN, age 52. When next of kin were contacted they indicated having no contact with PARKIN since May 2013.
Even though there is no evidence indicating the cause of death is related to any crime, OSP would like to speak to anyone who had contact with the deceased since June of this year. Anyone with useful information is asked to call Trooper Ray Stallsworth at (541) 967-2026 ext. 4280.
