Oregon Peace Officers Association To Hand Out Awards to OSP Troopers

The Oregon Peace Officers Association is holding their annual awards banquet on Friday, November 8, 2013, to honor the men and women of Oregon's law enforcement community who have distinguished themselves through bravery, heroism, and exemplary service to the public. Several Oregon State Police troopers are receiving special awards. The following is a brief synopsis of those awards with links to information about the incidents they were involved in and are being recognized for:
 
* The “Distinguished Service Award”, will be presented to 12 individuals, including OSP Trooper Josh Nagle. The “Distinguished Service Award” is presented to any Criminal Justice Employee for exceptional accomplishments for which that individual distinguished themself while performing highly creditable or unusual actions.

* The “Medal of Honor” is to be presented to 13 individuals, including OSP Sergeant Timothy Plummer, Trooper Perry N. Rhoades, and Trooper James Andrews. The OPOA “Medal of Honor” is awarded to individuals who, while serving in an official capacity with their law enforcement agency, distinguish themselves conspicuously by the performance of a heroic act in excess of normal demands of police service, being fully aware of an imminent threat to his/her personal safety.

* The "Life Saving Award", may be presented to individuals who, while serving in an official capacity with their law enforcement agency, perform an active, distinct and successful lifesaving of another human being. Recipients of the OPOA "Life Saving Award" including OSP Senior Trooper Jason Stone and Trooper Aaron Baimbridge, and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Don Martin and Deputy Pete Wood.

* The "Life Saving Award", may be presented to individuals who, while serving in an official capacity with their law enforcement agency, perform an active, distinct and successful lifesaving of another human being. One of the recipients of the OPOA "Life Saving Award" was OSP Sergeant Senior Trooper Freddie Dunlap.

* The OPOA "Medal of Valor" award, will be presented to OSP Senior Trooper Rick Madsen, Senior Trooper Michael Mayer, and Aaron Dietz. The OPOA "Medal of Valor" is awarded to individuals who, while serving in an official capacity with their law enforcement agency, distinguish themselves by reacting to a situation in a positive and professional manner, thereby reducing the risk of loss of life or injury to citizens.
