Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Friday afternoon's fatal motor vehicle crash along Highway 62 north of Eagle Point involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial vehicle. The male driver of the passenger vehicle died as a result of the crash.
According to OSP Senior Trooper Tom Harrison, on November 9, 2012 at 12:20 p.m., a 2003 Ford Escape SUV driven by KIM PITZL, age 59, from Medford, was traveling westbound on Highway 62 near milepost 62 when it crossed over the center lane divider into the eastbound lane where it almost collided with another passenger vehicle. The Ford Escape then collided nearly head-on with a 2007 Freightliner truck towing an unloaded 2008 48-foot trailer driven by BRYAN THOMPSON , age 44, from Medford.
THOMPSON was not injured.
PITZL was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.
Prior to the crash, troopers received reports of an earlier driving complaint on a "silver suv" driving erratically on Highway 62 and were in the process of responding to investigate the driving complaint when the crash occurred.
OSP troopers from the Central Point Area Command office are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
