Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers arrested a driver involved in Monday afternoon's two-vehicle traffic crash that resulted in the death of an adult female and non-life threatening injuries to the other driver and passenger along Highway 58 near Lowell in Lane County.
On November 19, 2012 at approximately 5:38 p.m., a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze driven by LORI JEAN McNAMARA, age 46, from West Fir, was eastbound on Highway 58 near milepost 14 when a westbound 2003 Dodge Durango driven by TRACI LYNN AKERS, age 38, from Sweet Home, crossed the centerline and collided into the Chevrolet.
McNAMARA was pronounced deceased at the scene.
AKERS and her 14-year old daughter passenger were both transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. The daughter's name is not available for this release and her injuries were minor. TRACI AKERS reportedly was combative with ambulance personnel while enroute to the hospital. After she was treated and released, OSP troopers took her into custody and lodged her in the Lane County Jail on the following charges:
* Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants
* Manslaughter in the Second Degree
* Assault in the Third Degree (2 counts)
* Reckless Driving
* Recklessly Endangering Another Person
OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Lane County District Attorney's Office.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Lane County Sheriff's Office, Dexter Fire Department, Springfield Fire Department, and ODOT. The highway was closed about 45 minutes before one lane was open until the highway was cleared about 3 hours later.
