The Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal is deploying three staff members with expertise in emergency management finance to assist the state of New York with Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.
The Oregon Office of Emergency Management has organized the deployment of OSFM resources under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC). The EMAC is a national interstate mutual aid agreement that allows states to share resources across state lines during disasters and emergencies.
The OSFM finance experts will join the New York Emergency Operations Center in Albany and work in the finance section of the incident command.
The finance section is one of five key components of the National Incident Management System. In addition to monitoring multiple sources of funds, the finance section forecasts expenditures, arranges vendor contracts, handles injury compensation and claims, and performs cost analysis for the incident.
The OSFM personnel will depart Oregon December 1, 2012 and return December 17, 2012.
Personnel from 28 states, including Oregon, have responded to assist states affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Oregon has answered the call for assistance through the EMAC system three previous times - for Hurricanes Irene and Katrina, and a wildfire in Idaho.
