A Grants Pass man was arrested Friday by Oregon State Police (OSP) detectives following an investigation into alleged child abuse injuries that have a 2-year old boy in critical condition at a Portland-area hospital.

On December 5, 2012, a 2-year old boy was taken by his mother and step-father to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass with diagnosed head injury. The boy was then transported to Rogue Valley Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery before he was taken by Mercy Flights to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland. After arrival at Doernbecher Children's Hospital, medical staff discovered additional injuries.

Detectives from the OSP Criminal Investigation Division, with the assistance of Josephine County District Attorney's Office, started to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child's injuries. On December 7, 2012, OSP detectives arrested the child's step-father, DAMIEN RAFAEL GULICK, age 32, and lodged him in the Josephine County Jail for Assault in the First Degree and Criminal Mistreatment in the First Degree.

The child, whose name will not be released at this time, is in critical condition.

Questions regarding this investigation should be directed to the Josephine County District Attorney's Office on Monday when an arraignment is expected to occur. OSP Detective Bryan Scott is the lead investigator.
